Well, not really STOP global warming, but feel good about doing your part. Although, as I write this, 15 inches of snow is accumulating outside my window. I told my kids I want to increase my carbon footprint because I am sick and tired of this cold weather. They did not think I was amusing. Anyway, here's some interesting facts I dug up somewhere when I should have been shoveling, or cleaning or paying bills:
- The average American buys 70 pounds of clothing and textiles a year. ( For those of you who shop or consign on this website, you can call yourself "above average," without anyone snickering.)
- 85% of used textiles get thrown into landfills.
- Almost 100% of those textiles are reusable and/or recyclable.
So, while I could stand a little global warming right about now, I would not want to be responsible for cute fuzzy little polar bears losing their lives. Would you?
